This was painted from Inspiration Point in Tilden Park, perhaps 3 or more years ago.
I really liked the way the long, late afternoon shadows were contrasting against the water, Mt. Diablo is in the distance.
A quick study done a few years back. I liked the quality of the early morning light and the reflections in the water. Morro Rock? is probably the most dominant land feature in the area. I was here all day at the beach and painted it later in the day as well when it was more backlit.
I painted this a few weekends ago at Rockaway Beach in Pacifica.
It was 80's on the coast and really clear. The wind was mild but the waves were enormous.
I've been really interested in capturing the waves in action, and this beach is a great location to do that, as its easy to get to and pretty uncrowded. It also has some really nice rock formations and great looking breaking surf.
Another view of this awesome park. I managed to paint this just before sunset at the park. The park were was unusually quiet and there was almost no one on the trail.
I kind of want to do larger paintings of each half of this study, each half deserving its own space and composition.
I currently work as an Art Director for Maxis, a division of Electronic Arts, in Emeryville, California.
I've worked for game companies most of my career and love the pace and special challenges of product development.
I graduated from Art Center College of Design in 1995, with a B. S. in Transportation Design. Before that I attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York majoring in Industrial Design.
